Spring is on its way....I hope!

More signs of spring are arriving everyday. The sun is stronger. The days are getting longer. The goats are shedding. The bees are heading out of the hive for an occasional flight. The trees are tapped and the sap is running. The greenhouse is full of seedlings. The snow is beginning to melt and crocuses and snowdrops have started to push out of the ground.

We are looking forward to other sure signs of spring on the farm. The first ewe, Coco, should lamb later this month. I look forward to new arrivals enjoying their first springs in the fresh green fields. The big pigs are starting to venture outside more and the little pigs will soon move from the barn to their outdoor area. New chickens and baby goslings will soon follow. Of course that means the calm behaviour of the geese will be replaced by protective (and aggressive) mating behaviour.

We are making plans for opening the farm store in May. The store will get a bit of a makeover with new shelving and displays. We're playing with a few ideas including seasonal weekly features each Saturday (soups, baking, seedlings, flowers) , stained glass, and small paintings. We will have all of our preserves and meats available as well. A new batch of pork products will be in store for the July 1st weekend. We still have pork in stock as well as soup chickens. Remember, you can always contact us and drop by.

If you haven't checked out the Lifestyles page on the website, check it out for some recipes for St. Patrick's day. The recipes on the page always feature things we grow and raise at the farm or that we get from neighbouring farms. Nothing beats locally grown!
